AGFUND Supports Uresti in State Senate Race
2/15/2010

The Texas Farm Bureau Friends of Agriculture Fund (AGFUND), Inc. has endorsed incumbent Carlos Uresti in the March 2 Democratic primary race for the District 19 State Senate seat.

“As vice-chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, Carlos Uresti holds an important voice in the future of agriculture in our state,” said Kenneth Dierschke, president of AGFUND and the Texas Farm Bureau. “He also serves on the Senate Natural Resources Committee, which oversees state conservation initiatives and use of the state’s precious resources. His district is one of the largest geographical districts in the nation, spanning from San Antonio to the outskirts of El Paso, and his voting record has shown time and again that he supports producers and their property rights. We look forward to his continued leadership in the State Senate.”

Uresti was elected to the Senate in 2006, having served nine years in the Texas House of Representatives. In addition to his vice chairmanship of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, he is vice-chair of the Administration Committee and co-chairs the Bexar Metropolitan Water District Legislative Oversight Committee, as well as serving on the Health and Human Services Committee. A former Marine captain and combat engineer, Uresti operates a private practice law firm in San Antonio.

AGFUND is Texas Farm Bureau’s political action fund. It is a legal entity separate from the Texas Farm Bureau and may endorse and contribute financially to political candidates. AGFUND is funded only by voluntary contributions from TFB members.
