Waco, TEXAS--The board of the Texas Farm Bureau Friends of Agriculture Fund (AGFUND), Inc. unanimously endorsed Republican Senator Dan Patrick for Lieutenant Governor.
"Sen. Patrick visited with our board in July and expressed support for many issues of concern to our members," said Kenneth Dierschke, president of TFB and of AGFUND. "We look forward to discussing those issues with Sen. Patrick when he becomes Lt. Governor, as we expect he will."
Dierschke said Farm Bureau is a conservative organization and shares many of Patrick's goals with regard to state government.
"We believe in small and effective government, but government should do the things it must do efficiently," Dierschke said.
Property rights, said the grain and cotton farmer from San Angelo, will always be a top issue for Texas farmers and ranchers. "We find many areas of agreement on property rights issues," he said.
Patrick's support for Proposition One on the November ballot, using revenues from the oil and gas severance tax to take care of transportation needs, also impressed the AGFUND board. Finding resources to maintain Texas' system of farm-to-market roads has been a major concern in rural Texas.
